The Captain’s Log | Entry 001
Most tourists make the same mistake.
They buy a €15 ferry ticket. They stand in line at Cirkewwa or Mgarr. They pack onto a boat with 200 other people. And when they finally arrive at the Blue Lagoon, they are dropped off at the Main Jetty.
If you have seen photos of the Blue Lagoon online, you know the water is paradise. But the Main Jetty? That is chaos. Noise, crowds, umbrellas touching umbrellas. It is not the “Mediterranean Dream” you were promised.
At Ozzi One Charters, we do things differently.
The Secret of the Crystal Lagoon
When I captain the Ozzi One, I often steer completely clear of the concrete jetty. Instead, I take my guests to a place the big ferries simply cannot reach: The Crystal Lagoon.
Located just around the corner, these waters are:
- ✅ Deeper: Perfect for diving from the boat.
- ✅ Clearer: Visibility is often 30+ meters.
- ✅ Quieter: No crowds. Just you, the sea, and the cliffs.
The “Popeye” Cave
One of my favorite secrets to share is the cave system near Comino. The commercial boats drive past them. We drive into them.
The Ozzi One is designed with a specific hull draft that allows us to navigate shallow cave entrances. Inside, the water glows an electric neon blue—a phenomenon caused by sunlight reflecting off the white sand underwater. It is the best photo opportunity in the Maltese Islands, and 90% of visitors miss it.
Your Choice: The Crowd or The Command?
You can see Comino like a tourist, or you can see it like a local. The difference isn’t just the price—it’s the memory.
